Reflective Curtain

Tonight I tried to make a curtain of mica. This is the stuff I found while hiking in Nebraska last summer on the way to Chicago. I drilled two holes in the small sheets and strung them on silver wrapped thread. I looks super cool but the mica is very flaky and the little bits scatter like glitter. The gallery has a no glitter policy also I imagine this material will not be permitted. My idea was to make a curtain of mica and then project the video onto the reflective shattered surface.

Today I worked on the cape material. I am experimenting different types of wool to see which color and texture is the best for this project. I started using the dyed red piano scroll paper as the heart shapes. Some of the dye bleeds out onto the wool while it is drying and I like the effect. I am thinking of doing heart drawing mono prints onto the piano paper so the lines from the drawings are present in the material.

Oh! I had an interesting idea: Use the plaster body cast as a dress form and shape the material on the form to make a full length fitted cloak with big puffy sleeves and a hood. See drawing below.

I finished 15 pages of the thesis. Ten more to go. I plan to crank this out next week so I can focus 100% on making stuff for the show.

...And I had a great meeting with Kris and Alex. We talked about the Metanoia video and I learned a lot from them. I plan to work with some of their ideas but probably will not do a deep dive before the thesis show. Not enough time. After talking with them It made me want to go to film school to learn more. Maybe that will be next.

I ended up sending the video to Nick the guy at SAIC who is going to do the sound. I haven't heard back from him yet. I might end up sending him a text.

Tomorrow I am taking a day off to go for a hike and look for mushrooms.

Night!
